From Wednesday, July 10th at 12 noon, until Monday, July 15th at 12 noon, the Survivor’s Hope team will be available 24/7 on-call to respond to needs for wellness support in the campground at Winnipeg Folk Festival.
Being “unwell” can look different for each person, but could include feeling anxious, upset, distressed, having a bad times on substances, trauma responses (something that happened at Folk Fest or being triggered to reexperience past feelings), managing experiences of harm (sexual, intentional, or accidental), or feelings of unsafety, among others – there’s never a wrong time to access wellness support.
Therefore, wellness support looks different for each person too, but in general, calling for wellness support means a team of two, kind individuals will attend to your location ASAP, or meet you somewhere that feels more comfortable, to offer a listening ear to understand your needs and how they can help. This might mean being together until you feel ok, providing Naloxone, connecting to resources, or helping to figure out your next step.
The team receives comprehensive training on mental health intervention and trauma-informed care, specializing in experiences of sexualized violence, and many members have professional backgrounds in areas such as social work, therapy, gender-based violence, queer and neuro-diverse identities, and harm reduction.
