International Women’s Week

You may have heard of International Women’s Day but did you know that March 2 – 8 is International Women’s Week? This is a week for all the world to celebrate women and their unique experiences. The first International Women’s Day took place in the early 1900’s in the US when women were fighting for the right to vote and hold public office. It didn’t take long for the day to spread to other countries. In fact, International Women’s Day is an official holiday in over 25 countries from Afghanistan to Zambia.

Here in Manitoba, there are a number of events planned to celebrate women this week. Check out the calendar of International Women’s Week events to find an event that interests you. Don’t forget, the Winnipeg Art Gallery is offering free admission to all (not just women) on March 8, International Women’s Day.
